Planning to do an MBA in Delhi but confused about which B-school to pick? You are not alone. Every year, lakhs of students take CAT, XAT and GMAT. After the results come out, most of them face the same question: which college will give me good learning, good exposure and a good job at a fee I can justify?
If you are looking at private B-schools in Delhi NCR, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), Delhi is one name that keeps coming up. It is a 30-year-old institute in Dwarka. It is AACSB accredited, its PGDM batches have an average package of more than 12 LPA, and it follows the values of one of India's most respected Prime Ministers.
About LBSIM Delhi
LBSIM was set up in 1995 to keep alive the vision and values of Bharat Ratna Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, India's second Prime Minister. It was founded by his son, Shri Anil Shastri, a former Union Minister, who is still the Chairman of the institute's Board of Governors. The institute celebrated its 30th Foundation Day in February 2025. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi was the Chief Guest.
The spirit of the institute is summed up in one line: "excellence with ethics". Shastri Ji was known for his honesty and simple living, and LBSIM tries to build the same qualities in its students. Students here even call themselves "Shastrians".
Approvals and accreditations
- AICTE approved: All its PGDM programmes are approved by the All-India Council for Technical Education.
- AACSB accredited: AACSB is the world's leading accreditation body for business schools. LBSIM is among India's top 30 management institutions to have it.
- NBA accredited: Three of its PGDM programmes are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation.
- AIU equivalence: The Association of Indian Universities treats LBSIM's PGDM as equal to an MBA degree. This helps if you later want to do a PhD, go abroad, or apply for government jobs.
- NIRF ranked: LBSIM is in the 101–125 rank band in the NIRF Management Rankings 2025.

Courses Offered at LBSIM Delhi
LBSIM offers four full-time, two-year PGDM programmes and one doctoral programme, the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM). All PGDM programmes are AICTE approved, and the PGDM is treated as equivalent to an MBA.
| Programme | Seats | Who it suits |
| PGDM (General) | 180 | Students who want a broad management career in marketing, finance, HR, operations or IT |
| PGDM (Financial Management) | 60 | Students aiming for banking, investment, valuation, risk or consulting roles |
| PGDM (Research & Business Analytics) | 60 | Students who enjoy numbers, data and research-based decision making |
| PGDM (Artificial Intelligence & Data Science) | 30 | Students who want to use AI and machine learning in business roles |
You can apply for more than one programme through a single application form. You just list them in your order of preference.
1. PGDM (General)
This is LBSIM's flagship programme, running since 1995. It gives you a strong base across all business functions in the first year. In the second year, you choose your specialisation. Students can take two specialisations from these options:
- Marketing
- Finance
- Human Resource Management
- Operations
- Information Technology
- Economics & Public Policy
There are nearly 100 electives to choose from. Some popular ones are Digital Marketing, Consumer Analytics, Business Valuation, Private Equity, Fintech & Blockchain, Supply Chain Analytics, HR Analytics and Machine Learning.
2. PGDM (Financial Management)
This is a finance-focused programme for those who want to build a career in BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance). Students study corporate finance, valuation, fixed income, derivatives, portfolio management, risk management and M&A. Recruiters from this programme hire for roles like investment analyst, credit analyst, valuation associate, risk analyst and wealth manager.
3. PGDM (Research & Business Analytics)
This programme is for students who want to work with data. It covers statistics, business research methods, forecasting, marketing analytics and supply chain analytics. Students learn to use tools like Python, R, SPSS, Tableau and Power BI. Typical roles are business analyst, data analyst and research analyst.
4. PGDM (Artificial Intelligence & Data Science)
This is LBSIM's newest programme. It mixes core management subjects with Python programming, supervised and unsupervised machine learning, deep learning, NLP, big data and data privacy. In the second year, students pick electives from three tracks: AI for Marketing, AI for Financial Applications, and Advanced AI (computer vision, reinforcement learning, robotics, and more).
How the programme is structured
Every PGDM runs over six trimesters in two years:
- Foundation programme: Before classes begin, students do short courses in basic accounting, business communication, MS Excel, statistics, Python, entrepreneurship and Bloomberg Market Concepts. This brings students from different backgrounds to the same level.
- Year 1 (Trimesters I–III): Core subjects like accounting, economics, marketing, finance, HR, operations and strategy.
- Summer internship: An 8–10-week internship with a company between the first and second year.
- Year 2 (Trimesters IV–VI): Specialisation electives, leadership, CSR, sustainability, and a five-month final research project.
Learning beyond the classroom
LBSIM puts a lot of weight on practical learning. Every student goes through what the institute calls "triple immersion", each lasting 7 to 10 days:
- Rural immersion: All students spend time in villages across 5 states with NGOs such as Shiv Ganga, Sapna Foundation and Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan. LBSIM calls it India's largest rural immersion programme.
- Outbound leadership programme: All students go on a 7-day trek in the Himalayas (Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand) with the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation. It includes treks such as Dodital and Kedarkantha, plus rock climbing, rappelling and river crossing.
- International immersion: 40+ students visit partner universities in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Dubai, such as the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok.
Students also earn industry certifications during the course, such as Bloomberg (BMC and ESG), CFA, FMVA, NISM, Google Ads and Analytics, HubSpot, Power BI, MySQL and KPMG Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. These make your CV stronger at placement time.
Faculty at LBSIM Delhi
Good faculty is the backbone of any B-school, and this is one of LBSIM's strong points. The institute has 50+ full-time faculty members with PhDs. About 70% of them have industry experience in areas like public service, consulting, FMCG and banking. This means classes are not just about theory. Teachers bring real examples from their own work.
The faculty is also active in research and publishes in well-known journals. LBSIM holds national conferences every year in HR, marketing, finance and AI. In 2025–26, chief guests included senior leaders from NASSCOM, Mastercard, Reliance Consumer Brands, NIIF and Newgen Software.

The campus is within walking distance of the Dwarka Sector 11 Metro Station, and the IGI Airport is close by. Being in the national capital also makes it easier for students to reach corporate offices in Delhi, Gurugram and Noida for interviews, live projects and internships.

Valid Entrance Exams and Eligibility
LBSIM accepts only three entrance exams for its PGDM programmes: CAT, XAT and GMAT. Scores from CMAT, MAT, ATMA or state-level exams are not accepted. So, if LBSIM is on your list, plan to take at least one of these three.
| Exam | Conducted by | Key dates for the 2027–29 batch |
| CAT 2026 | IIMs | Registration: 3 Aug – 22 Sep 2026; Exam: 29 Nov 2026; Result: early Jan 2027 |
| XAT 2027 | XLRI Jamshedpur | Registration: 15 Jul – 6 Dec 2026; Exam: 3 Jan 2027; Result: late Jan / early Feb 2027 |
| GMAT | GMAC | Can be taken any time of the year; valid for 5 years |
These dates are as listed on the LBSIM website. Always double-check them on the official CAT, XAT and GMAT websites.
Eligibility criteria
The eligibility is the same for all four PGDM programmes:
- Graduation: A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university, with at least 50% marks (or equivalent). Final-year students can also apply, based on their latest available marks.
- Entrance exam: A valid CAT, XAT or GMAT score.
- Work experience: Not required. Freshers are welcome, and candidates with up to 3 years of work experience can also apply.
Is there any reservation?
No. LBSIM is a private institute, and the admission process is the same for all candidates, whatever their category.
Who studies at LBSIM?
Looking at the current batches gives a good idea of the peer group. In the 2026–28 batch of 285 students:
- About 66% come from a commerce background. Around 13% are from arts, 12% from engineering and 9% from science.
- About 72% are freshers, and the rest have some work experience.
- About 40% of the batch are women, which is a healthy gender mix for a B-school.
So, non-commerce students and working professionals should not worry. The foundation programme helps everyone start on an equal footing.
Admission Process at LBSIM Delhi
The admission process at LBSIM is simple and fully online till the interview stage. Here is how it works for the PGDM 2027–29 batch:
- Fill the online application: Apply at forms.lbsim.ac.in. Enter your academic details, work experience (if any) and entrance exam details. One form covers all four programmes, and you rank them in order of preference.
- Pay the application fee: The fee is Rs. 1,500 if you apply by 15 November 2026 (early application benefit). After that, it is Rs. 2,200. You pay it only once, even if you apply for all four programmes.
- Submit your entrance score: Share your CAT, XAT or GMAT score once results are out. LBSIM makes a shortlist using a composite score. This considers your exam score, past academic record, work experience and the details in your application form.
- Extempore and personal interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an extempore (speaking) round and a personal interview (PI). These usually happen at the Delhi campus between February and March.
- Final offer and seat booking: The final merit list is based on your overall profile. If you get an offer, you secure your seat by paying the fee within the given time.
What is the cut-off?
LBSIM does not publish a fixed cut-off. The selection is holistic. Your entrance score matters, but so do your 10th, 12th and graduation marks, your work experience, and how you perform in the extempore and interview. The cut-off changes every year depending on the number and quality of applicants. So, even if your percentile is not very high, a strong academic record and a good interview can make a difference.
Fee structure
For the PGDM (General) 2027–29 batch, the fees are:
| Fee head | Amount |
