About 55 seats are vacant in IIM Shilliong, Trichy and Rothak. The 13 IIMs in the country have a total strength of 2700 seats across its post graduate programmes.
A prime reason for this is the simultaneous admissions conducted by these institutes which results in students getting calls and offers from multiple IIMs. As a result, they choose to opt for the older IIMs.
This results in loss of revenue and deserving candidates loose opportunities to secure admission. The human resource ministry proposed common counseling and GDPI but the suggestion was rejected.
