Non-IIM B-schools accepting CAT (common admission test) scores for admission are even lesser this year owing to the controversy over the test in 2012. Just 89 non-IIM institutes had registered for CAT 2014 scores as on 6th August. Around 125 non - IIM institutes had registered last year and in 2012, more than 150 non-IIM institutes had registered to use CAT scores for admissions.
The issue came to light in June, 2013 as CAT 2012 scores from the website www.catiim.in(hosted and managed by M/ s Web Weavers) were compared with master database of the scores (scores taken from prometric). On comparing it was discovered that for around 80 candidates, inflated scores were uploaded on the website. Scores from the website were given to non-IIM institutes for admissions into their respective colleges where as master score-sheets were used by the IIMs for enrolments. Following this, many non-IIM b-schools didn't regsiter for CAT 2013 and the numbers have dropped even further for CAT 2014.
Few of the major institutes that haven't registered for CAT 2014 scores are:
University School of Management (Kurukshetra University), Fortune Institute of International Business (Delhi), Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan's, Usha and Lakshami Mittal Institute of Management (Delhi), Asia Pacific Institute of Management (Delhi), Institute of Health Management and Research (Jaipur), CCS National Institute of Agriculture Marketing (Jaipur), Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (Lucknow), Lucknow University, JRE Group of Institutions (Uttar Pradesh), Thiugarajar School of Management and School of Management Studies (University of Hyderabad).
Apart from the institutes mentioned above the following central/national institutes also did not register for CAT 2014:
Atal Bihari Vajpayee - Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management, (Gwalior), Birla Institute of Technology & Science (Pilani), Department of Business Administration (Tezpur University- Assam), Department of Management Studies (Bangalore), Department of Management Studies (Pondicherry University), Indian Institute of Forest Management (Bhopal), Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur), Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (Allahabad) and National Institute of Technology (Mangalore).
According to the convenor of CAT 2014, the central/national institutes mentioned here couldn't register due to issues with regards to MoUs. The convenor was sure about an increase in the number of non-IIM institutes registering for this year's CAT scores. He also feels that this year the number of such institutes will be even more than that of last year.
Two central institutes that have been added to the list this year are Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) and IIT Kanpur. Some other B-schools that have registered for CAT 2014 are - Bhavan's Priyamvada Birla Institute of Management (Mysore), Indus Business Academy, Birla Institute of Management and Technology, KIIT School of Rural management (Orissa), Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Technology and Management (Indore), University of Petroleum and Energy Studies and Doon Business School Global.
