The IIMs have been asked to explain the methodology of scoring of Common Admission Test (CAT 2013) by the Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh high court. They have also asked the institute to obtain raw scores of students in the next two weeks from Prometric Testing Pvt Ltd. Prometric had conducted CAT 2013. The order was issued after allegations by students regarding discrepancies in the test, followed by petitions filed by them. According to some students they got a lower percentile because of a fault in IIMs evaluation process.
Earlier, notices were issued by the court after petitions were filed by students and in response to that the IIMs had filed their reply. The petitioners later filed a rejoinder since they weren't satisfied with the response and they wanted an explanation regarding the scoring methodology from the institute. They also wanted the institute to reveal the raw scores. In response to this Prometric Testing Pvt Ltd stated its willingness to share raw scores. After that the IIMs were asked by the court to take raw scores from Prometric in a sealed envelope and also asked them to explain the method of scoring.
Earlier students had demanded revaluation since they felt that there were discrepancies in the normalization method and scaling process used in CAT 2013. Their demand for revaluation was rejected by IIM Indore, the organiser of CAT 2013 which prompted the students to file a petition before HC.
