What is IPMAT / IPM?

IPMAT stands for Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test. At IIM Indore the academic programme itself is called the Five-Year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) — the IPMAT is the entrance test for admission into that programme. The IPM awards a dual degree on successful completion (BA Foundation of Management + MBA) and is targeted at Class XII pass-outs (or those appearing), offering a direct integrated management path from undergraduate level.

IIM Indore Exam Pattern 2026

The official admission procedure describes the Aptitude Test (AT) pattern. This has been the stable format for recent cycles and IIM Indore indicated the IPM AT for the 2026 test will follow the same structure:

Section Time Type Marks
QA (MCQ) 40 min MCQs; negative marking: −1 per wrong Each Q = 4
QA (SA) 40 min Short-answer (numeric/text); no negative marking Each Q = 4
VA (MCQ) 40 min MCQs; negative marking: −1 per wrong Each Q = 4
Total 120 min 90 questions (approx.) Total marks: 360

Important: You must answer sections in a pre-specified order (same order for all candidates).

Negative marking applies except for the QA (Short/TITA Answer) section.

Weightage for selection

Aptitude Test Score (ATS): 65% of composite score. (ATS is computed by weighting section raw scores: QA(MCQ) 25, QA(SA) 25, VA 50 — the ATS aggregates these to compute merit for shortlisting.)

Personal Interview (PI): 35% of composite score. Final Composite Score = 0.65×ATS + 0.35×PI.

IPMAT Indore 2026: Results and Selection Process

Stage 1: All applicants who meet eligibility and successfully apply.

Stage 2 (Aptitude Test): Only candidates with positive raw scores and minimum sectional cutoffs are eligible for the next stage. IIM Indore decides the minimum section cutoffs category-wise.

Stage 3 (Shortlist for PI): Shortlist is made using ATS (65%) — those shortlisted will be called for PI (online/offline).

Final selection: Composite Score = 65% ATS + 35% PI; seats are allotted subject to reservation rules.

IPMAT Indore Cutoffs 2025

Historical cutoffs have trended upwards as competition and application numbers rise. Official RTI/published tables show sectional minimums for earlier cycles; industry experts estimate the General category overall total cutoff could be  210–220 (out of 360) for 2026, but remember this is an estimate; Actual published cutoffs from IIM Indore will be final.

How to interpret cutoffs:

IIM Indore applies sectional minima (candidate must have ≥ minimum in each section and positive raw scores) before ranking. So a balanced score across sections is safer than concentrating all marks in one section.

IPMAT Mock Tests 2026: Preparation Strategy and Free Mock Tests

Mock tests are non-negotiable for IPMAT Indore prep. You must do: Full-length timed mocks that replicate the exact section order and negative marking rules. Topic-wise practice for QA short answer & MCQ separately. RC & VA practice with time-bound passages.

For Free Mock: Click here

Mock strategy:

  1. Start with topic tests (QA fundamentals, RC speed).
  2. Two months before the exam: ramp to 2 full mocks/week + detailed analysis.
  3. Last 3 weeks: 4–6 full mocks/week (simulate test day: same slot order + breaks).
  4. After each mock: maintain an error log (concept errors, silly mistakes, time-loss issues) and fix one problem type per day.

How To Prepare IPMAT 2026 EXAM in 6 Months

  1. Months 1–2 (Foundations): Revise arithmetic, algebra basics, number system.
  2. Daily reading (30–45 min) — editorials, long RCs, vocabulary.
  3. Solve 20–30 QA topic questions daily.
  4. Months 3–4 (Speed & application):
  5. Start sectional timed tests (40 min QA-MCQ; 40 min QA-SA; 40 min VA).
  6. Do 1 full mock every 10 days + topic tests.
  7. Create formula sheet, trick list, and error log.
  8. Month 5 (Polish & mocks):
  9. Move to 2–3 full mocks/week with full analysis.
  10. Focus on QA-SA accuracy — practice short answer numeric problems with no negative marking approach.
  11. Improve RC speed by timing and summarising each passage.
  12. Final 2 weeks:
  13. 4–6 mocks/week; simulate exam day conditions strictly.
  14. No new topics — only consolidation, mocks, and error fixes.
  15. Sleep, small revision notes, light reading. On exam day: arrive early, keep documents ready, and don’t overthink.

Things to avoid in IPMAT Mock Tests (common mistakes)

Relying only on shortcuts without concept clarity (especially for QA-SA).

Ignoring sectional minima — a high total with one poor section may still get you eliminated.

Not learning from mocks: repeating the same error pattern is the quickest way to waste time.
