GRE Details

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) revised General Test is taken by individuals applying to various graduate and business school programs in United States and other countries. Administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), it is available at about 700 centers in over 160 countries.
The computer-based GRE can be taken once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous period of 12 months. This includes test attempts in which the score was cancelled by the candidate.



There is no specific eligibility criterion for GRE. However, various universities that accept GRE scores have their own criteria of admission.

*Unscored: This section will not be declared explicitly and can appear in any order after Analytical Writing section. Questions in this section are being tried out either for possible use in future tests or to ensure that scores on new editions of the test are comparable to scores from earlier editions.
**Research: This section will be declared explicitly and, if included, will appear at the end of the test instead of the Unscored section. Questions in this section are included for ETS research purposes.
Performance in Unscored or Research sections will not affect the score.
The total duration of the test will be about 3 hours 45 minutes.
Note :
The Analytical Writing section is always presented first. Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Unscored sections can appear in any order. Each section should be approached with the thought that it will count towards the score.




Scores

Scores are reported in the following scales:

Verbal Reasoning 130-170, in 1 point increments
Quantitative Reasoning 130-170, in 1 point increments
Analytical Writing 0-6, in half point increments
If no questions are answered for a section, it will be indicated with NS (No Score).
After the test is finished, the following options are provided:
Report: The unofficial score (without score of Analytical Writing) is provided. Using ScoreSelect, you can choose the score(s) you want to send to institutions. The final Examinee Score Report is delivered in approximately 10-15 days after the date of the test.
Cancel: The score for the test can be cancelled without viewing, after which it will not be a part of your reportable score history. If the score is viewed through Report, it cannot be cancelled later. Cancelled scores can be reinstated within 60 days of test date for a fee of
US $30.
Scores can be sent to up to four graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors at no extra cost. For sending to more institutions, you can use Additional Score Reports (ASRs) at US $25 for each score.
Scores are valid for five years after the year in which you appeared for the test.




Exam Format

GRE is conducted in two formats: computer-based and paper-based. In India, only the computer-based format is available.

How to Apply

Following are three ways in which you can apply for the GRE revised General Test:
1. Online Registration
Create a My GRE Account on the GRE website.
Note: The name on your GRE account must exactly match the name on your ID proof as the same name will be used when you register for the test.
Log in to your My GRE Account and click ‘Register for the General Test’. You can see the available dates and centres and select them.
Pay US$ 185 online using an American Express, MasterCard or a Visa credit card.
The reporting time and the test center address will be mailed to you.
2. Phone Registration
Call the Regional Registration Centre (RRC) of Prometric India on 0124- 4147700 at least 3 business days before your preferred test date.
Pay US $185 by using an American Express, MasterCard or a Visa credit card. You have to share your credit card details over the phone.
A confirmation number, reporting time and the test center address will be given to you.
3. Mail Registration
Download the International Test Scheduling Form here . Fill in all the details correctly.
Prepare a dollar Demand Draft (DD) of US $185 in favour of ETS-GRE from any nationalized bank.
Mail the International Test Scheduling Form, Demand Draft and a photocopy of your passport to:

You will be assigned a test date, time and location based on the information you provide on the form. If your requested date(s) cannot be accommodated, you will be scheduled for the next available test date.A confirmation number, reporting time and the test center address will be emailed, faxed or mailed to you.

Documents Required on Test Day

Following documents are required for identification purposes, when taking the test in India:
1. Primary ID:
Valid passport with your name, photograph and signature.
2. Supplemental ID:
Driving license
PAN card
The supplemental ID documents might be needed only if the test administrator is not convinced with the details of the Primary ID.
