as n is even we assume it to be 2k
so we have 4k^2 trees
and 4k+1 trees everyday
if m+1 be the total no of days and T be the number of tree on the last day then

4k^2= m(4k+1) +T
4k^2-T=(4k+1)m
4k+1 divided lhs
T=13 is possible for k=4 and m =3

similarly we can see all primes can be obtained

so only value left is 28

Answer choice (3) 17
Now when n^2 is divided by 2n+1, when n is an even integer, the remainder is of the series 4,7,10,13...Only 17 can't be a part of this series.

Last digit forms an AP

So ans is 17.

on any day the no.of trees has to be an odd no., irrespective of value of "n", 2n+1 is definitely a odd no. and the only even no in the answer set is 28. ODD MAN OUT!!!! ;-) so 28's the answer.

the answer is option 4 for sure bcoz
the series is 5,9,13,17,21,25,29,31.........76 satifing that n is even.
therefore on the final day he will be able to calculate these odd values only.
now if we observe for 31 he has to first count 29 trees then 2 more trees. Now 2 is even whereas we are told it has to be odd only.
for all other values the no of trees he has to count are 3 e.g in case of say 79=(76(part of series)+3).

Its simple....the answer is 17(Option 3)...start putting the values of n=4,6,8,10......the last day trees to be studied would come out to be 7,10,13,16,19......,28.......,79...the only value that does not come is 17.....!!!!!!...

it 28.....
as he counts 2n+1 trees everyday..and n is an even no... so 2n+1 is an odd no...
so it cannot b any even no..
so ans is 28.

its 28, as it is clear that 28 is an even no: which doesn't suits to equation 2n+1, simple...

as there are a total of n^2 trees and at rate of 2n+1 trees per day he would take a total of n/2 days with n^2-(n/2-1)(2n+1) days left for the last day that is (3/2)n +1 for the last day. out of the given option only 17 cannot come in the series where n=2,4,6,8....... hence it is 17

its 17...

coz.. n^2 is dvided by (2n+1) it gives a remainder startng from 4 ,7,10.... nd so on..

in this series 17 is not a number..

hence answer will b 17....

simple..

i agree with u. the ans has to be 28 coz (2n+1) is odd no. so on any day he is counting odd no. of trees. 28 being the even no. is the ans of the ques.
